Genetic recombination

Genetic recombination is an exchange process of genetic material during cell division.

Produced DNA during genetic recombination is called recombinant DNA.  Eukaryotic or prokaryotic cell undergoes into genetic recombination during meiosis.

Genetic recombination involves the transfer of genetic information to the offspring by pairing of two homologous chromosome during meiosis cell division.

In eukaryotic cell genetic recombination may happen in mitosis cell division else.

Genetic crossover

Chromosomal crossover is the exchange of genetic material during gamete formation. Exchange of genetic material happens between two homologous chromosome.

It is the final stages of genetic recombination.

According to the law of inheritance, offspring gain some properties from ancestors. How the property of father and mother flows to offspring is a process of genetic crossover.

It happens during the phase of prophase 1 in meiosis cell division.
